BRT Summary

The British Regions Tournament is a new student-orientated tournament that started in 2022/23. It has two key novel differences with other student pool tournaments. Firstly, it is based on a region vs region format instead of university vs university. The UK is divided up into six competing regions (the Northwest, Northeast, Midlands, Southeast, Wales & the Southwest and Scotland & Northern Ireland). The second novel feature is the trials process required for entry. Finally, alumni are allocated a set number of places on each of the teams (A-team, B-team and the Women’s Team).

Trials

The Trials will take place between September-December each year. Each region will host its own Trials process and be organised by the Regional Director for each region. The results will be collated and top players assigned to the appropriate teams respectively, along with some reserve players. Each team also has between two to four reserve slots for players of exceptional standard – these players will not have to enter the trials process in order to qualify and will be determined by the Council.

Tournament

The main tournament is expected to take place over a weekend from mid-January to mid-February each year. It will be hosted in a reasonably central location. The format for the event will be similar to county matches – each team plays the equivalent team from each other region and the individual results will be extracted from this.

Council

BRT is run by the BRT Council. This consists of each of the Regional Directors for each region, the Tournament coordinator, the Trials Manager, Treasurer, General Assistant and Council Leader. To contact your Regional Director or to make a general enquiry to the Council, see the contact page.
